Comanche County Jail Booking Photos Temporarily Unavailable Following System Issue

County attributes disruption to system glitch; photos appear restored after reboot, with potential gap under review

BLUF

Booking photos associated with the Comanche County Detention Center were intermittently unavailable for several days in late March and early April. County officials attributed the issue to a system glitch, stating the system has since been restored. A review of records suggests a potential gap in photo availability during that period, which is still being evaluated.

What Happened

Between approximately March 26 and April 4, 2026, booking records continued to be published through the BluHorse system used by Comanche County, but associated mugshot images were not consistently available.

  • Booking entries appeared normally
  • Photo fields often returned no image or placeholder silhouettes
  • No public notice or advisory was issued regarding the disruption

What We Observed

Through routine monitoring and archival efforts at Lawton Town Crier:

  • Historical booking photos that would normally be present were missing at the time of access
  • The issue persisted across multiple days and entries
  • The absence appeared systemic, not isolated to individual records

County Response

On April 6, 2026, Comanche County Commissioner Josh Powers (District 3) responded to an inquiry, stating:

“So apparently it was a system glitch. They rebooted the system and it should be back up.”

He further requested notification of any additional issues.

System Restoration

Following that response:

  • Booking photos began appearing again through the BluHorse system
  • A manual archival run conducted after restoration showed:
    • Previously missing images becoming accessible again
    • A number of those images matching previously archived records
    • At least some images appearing as newly available

Potential Data Gap

While the system is now returning images, it is not yet fully confirmed whether:

  • All booking photos from March 26–April 4 are now accessible, or
  • Some images remain unavailable

At this time, the period is being treated as a:

potential gap in public-facing photo availability

Further reconciliation is ongoing to determine completeness.

Why This Matters

Booking photos are part of the public record typically associated with jail rosters and arrest logs. Temporary disruptions in access can:

  • Impact public transparency
  • Affect independent archiving and reporting efforts
  • Create inconsistencies in historical records

Next Steps

Lawton Town Crier will:

  • Continue reviewing booking records from the affected period
  • Compare current availability against archived data
  • Follow up with county officials if discrepancies remain

Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.

Transparency Note

This report is based on:

  • Direct observation of publicly available booking records
  • Independent archival system logs
  • On-record communication with county officials

No conclusions beyond documented observations are being made at this time.
