TAMPA, Fla. — March 2, 2026 — Three U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were lost over Kuwait late Sunday night in what officials describe as an apparent friendly-fire incident during active combat operations.
According to U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), the aircraft were flying in support of Operation Epic Fury when they were mistakenly engaged by Kuwaiti air defense systems at approximately 11:03 p.m. Eastern Time on March 1.
USCENTCOM stated the incident occurred during an active combat environment that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and unmanned aerial systems.
“During active combat—that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones — the U.S. Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses.”

Aircrews Safely Recovered
All six aircrew members successfully ejected from the aircraft and were safely recovered. Officials report that all personnel are currently in stable condition.
Kuwait has acknowledged the incident and is cooperating with U.S. forces. USCENTCOM expressed appreciation for Kuwaiti defense forces and their support during the ongoing operation.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the friendly-fire incident remains under investigation. Military officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The aircraft were participating in Operation Epic Fury, part of ongoing U.S. military operations in the region amid heightened tensions with Iran.
